23th September 2023, Maseru: Telecommunications giant, Econet Telecom Lesotho is thrilled to partner with the Spelling Bee Association of Lesotho in successfully holding the 2023 edition of the National Spelling Bee competition. The finals for this year’s edition were held today at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru.
Econet Telecom Lesotho has, for the second year running, been walking side-by-side with the Spelling Bee Association of Lesotho in an effort to help learners pay better attention to spelling, improve their vocabulary, learn new concepts and appreciate the value of language in their everyday life. The competition is furthermore aimed at helping learners to think and reason logically and critically, whilst preserving their distinctive values and culture.
Reflecting on this year’s National Spelling Bee completion, Econet Telecom Lesotho’s GM – Marketing Communications and Customer Experience noted, “We are extremely excited as Econet Telecom Lesotho to support this year’s competition of the National Spelling Bee because of the valuable role it plays in shining the light on the educational journey that these children have embarked on.”
“Most importantly, I would also like to highlight and appreciate the meaningful contribution by the Econet Telecom Lesotho staff who submitted over 200 Sesotho words that have been central in this year’s competition of the National Spelling Bee,” said Mrs. Nts’ekhe. She additionally thanked the Spelling Bee Association of Lesotho for the integral work they did in organizing the competition and for choosing Econet as partner in carrying out this important initiative.
On his part, the President of the Spelling Bee Association of Lesotho, Mr. Bitsanang Mpitsa thanked Econet Telecom Lesotho for its unwavering support to their organization in hosting the National Spelling Bee competition 2023 that has seen them grow to greater heights towards their vision to meaningfully contribute to the development of the youth’ self-esteem by creating pride in academic achievement and to build a solid foundation their future.
Econet Telecom Lesotho’s continued support towards the National Spelling Bee is testament to the company’s drive to participate in efforts earmarked to improve the country’s education sector and as result help shape the national development agenda. Over 100 learners and 32 schools made it to the finals of the National Spelling Bee championship, with representation from South Africa as well.
