Econet Telecom Lesotho offers educational websites for FREE
June 2020, Maseru: In order to facilitate, enhance and support online learning for students at the institutions of Higher learning, Econet Telecom Lesotho has been granted permission to unlock access to educational sites free of charge by the Lesotho Communications Authority.
The Chief Executive Officer of Econet, Dennis Plaatjies said though the utilisation of e-learning in Lesotho is still in its infancy stage, his company is prepared to assist schools into implementing and promoting online learning. “The former president of our neighboring country once said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world, Econet has the capacity and capability to ensure that learning does not stop especially during this dreary time when COVID-19 forced schools to close” said Plaatjies
“We offer a technological platform where students can continue to learn from wherever they are located” added Plaatjies
All schools including institutions of higher learning suspended face-to-face students’ interaction in mid-March 2020 upon the directive to do so by the Ministry of Education as a precautionary measure to enforce physical distancing during COVID-19 global pandemic, the end result of which was the closure of border gates and country-wide lock down.
Tertiary institutions put on-hold the traditional interaction lecturing at the time when students and lecturers were preparing for year-end examinations and research report submissions. The websites that Econet has released will give students the opportunity to access online content specific to their different institutions, communicate with lecturers and submit their assignments and research reports at no cost from the comfort of their homes thus help flatten COVID-19 pandemic curve.
