Econet grabs Lesotho Premier Soccer League

After eight year break, Econet makes a massive return and is grabs the Premier Soccer League.

Econet and the Lesotho Premier Soccer League (PSL) singed a M2 million-deal per annum for three years declaring Econet as the new brand name sponsor of the PSL on Friday September 1, 2017.

When the PSL season ended three months back, the sponsorship of the league remained open. The Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) approached Econet to take over the league and the agreement was reached hence the launch of Econet Premier League.

The sponsorship package amounts to two million and league champions will walk away with half a million while the rest of the fourteen teams will share one and a half million according to the ranking in the league.

Econet’s chief executive officer, Leon de Fleuriot said that Econet is ready to help the management with anything that helps grow our football in Lesotho. “We are looking forward to an exciting partnership filled with mutually beneficial aspects for the parties involved” said de Fleuriot

De Fleuriot said that even though there is a mantra that says soccer brings nations together, this cannot be achieved without the financial support of the big companies like Econet.

Econet became the first company in Lesotho to sponsor of the Premier soccer League and lower leagues which are A, B & C divisions for seven years from 2002 to 2009 through the prepaid brand Buddie.

The last premier soccer league sponsorship deal that Econet had with the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) worth M750, 000.00 fell off in 2009 but now Econet comes in full force and nearly triples the amount.

The Econet Premier League kick-off games will commence on Saturday September 2, 2017.
